Polo Cup India 2010 kicks off next week
==============================
Come May 28, and 20 budding racecar drivers from all over the country will fight for the Polo Cup India 2010 in Balewadi in the city.
The championship will see six car races at Pune, Coimbatore and Chennai.
The Polo Cup India was first conceptualised in October 2008 by Volkswagen India, also the organisers of the event. The German automaker unveiled the racing version of their popular hatchback, the Polo, at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2010. This variation of the Polo, known as the Race Polo, is the car that the young racers will be driving. An FIA-approved roll cage, a data logger system with an on-board camera, and a race brake system with a four-piston fixed caliper and front and rear disk brakes, are some modifications brought in to make the Polo race worthy.
The aspiring racers were put through a go-kart selection, through which the playing field was whittled down to just 45 participants. These 45 racers were then placed behind the wheel of the Race Polos, and went through another session in Coimbatore, from which the final 20 championship drivers were selected.
