Media centre set up @ Tamil conference venue

A media centre, measuring 12,000 sq.ft., has been established at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex where the World Classical Tamil Conference will be held from June 23 to 27, Parithi Ellamvazhuthi, Minister for Information, said here on Sunday.

The Minister said the government had earmarked Rs.60 lakh for constructing the centre and also providing modern facilities for news transmission and communication. A large number of representatives of the print and electronic media were expected to cover the event. The Minister said 25 journalists from other countries had registered themselves so far for permission to cover the conference. Computers with high-end configuration would be provided.

The centre would have high speed internet connectivity and wireless fidelity facility and also photocopiers and facsimile machines.

Mr. Ellamvazhuthi said officials and staff members of the Department of Information and Public Relations would function in three shifts at the centre: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The media centre would also have a control room to view the happenings at the main conference venue, the halls for various sessions and the exhibition hall. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited would set up an office at the venue.
