July 14, 2010: The second round of the 13th edition of India’s only motor racing championship JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship will be held on July 17th & 18th, 2010 at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. Over the years, this championship has touched greater heights and has gone to the next level with the best in technology, hospitality and management,thus, matching International standards.
The most significant achievement this year in the championship is the introduction of the Volkswagen Polo Cup,. The inaugural round was held at a street circuit at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune in the presence of over 20,000 spectators in May this year.
Also making its debut this weekend will be the relaunched Formula Rolon class. The bodywork of the car has been revamped and given a spanking new look, by LG Sports, the makers of the car chassis. The improved aerodynamics of the car creates greater down force, which gives the car better cornering speed. Under the hood, the car is powered by 1300cc Suzuki engines, which are fully modified with a fully programmable ECU. The customized engine gives upto 140 hp thrust – which packs quite a punch. These cars will be seen in action for the first time this weekend, as the races for the first round could not be held due to technical reasons.
On Day 1, Saturday, 17th July – post lunch session - the qualifying races and one race each in Formula LGB Swift and Super Saloon classes have been scheduled. The schedule for Sunday, 18th July, features two races each in the Formula Rolon and Polo classes and one race each in the Formula Swift and Super Saloons classes.
Volkswagen Polo cup
It was a dream debut for Vizag lad Sailesh Bolisetti as he blazed away to record two facile wins in the first round. Sailesh now heads the table with a tally of 60 points followed by the promising youngster from Delhi, Karthik Shankar who has notched up 44 points. Mohd. Fahad Kutty with 35 points is in third place.
Formula LGB Swift
Ameya Walavalkar of Team TVS Girling Racing heads the championship table with a tally of 15 points followed closesly by Ajay Kini of Wallace Sports with 14 points. Gokul Krishna of Mars Racings and Goutham Parekh of Wallace Sports are tied at third place with 11 points each.
TVS Girling Racing leads in the team championship with 28 points while Wallace Sports is in second place with 25 points. And in third place is Mars Racings with 11 points.
Super Saloons
Sailesh Bolisetti of Rad Racing leads in the Super Saloons class with 20 points followed by Siddarth Kishore of Performance Racing with 13 points and M.Sivaramakrishnan of Moto Rev Racing with 9 points respectively. Prime Racing currently is currently on top of the team championship table with 24 points followed by Rad Racing and Performance Racing with 20 points and 13 points respectively.
The notable teams on the grid this season are Amaron Pro Racing, Meco Racing, Rams Racing, Mars Racing, VA-RAD Racing, Performance Racing, N1 Racing, Prime Racing, Team TVS Girling Racing, Team Wallace Sports, Team Aerodene Race Krafts, Team Game Over, Team Moto Rev India, & Team Hot Cars Zone. Team NK Racing has pulled out from the series.
With the new championship updated with the latest technology, thrilling action on the 2.1 km long Kari Speedway track – a circuit which demands driving finesse as well as braking skills to exit faster through corners is underway and it promises to be a great weekend for motor sports enthusiasts.
