New out-patient wing in Ayurveda Hospital in city

The six-decade-old Ayurveda Hospital at Ramanathapuram in the city, run by The Ayurvedic Trust, Coimbatore, now has a modern out-patient department with computerised facility for documentation of cases.

The documentation facility supports a national-level programme titled RUDRA.

Managed earlier by the trust, it is now promoted by the Department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Department has recognised the hospital as a centre of excellence in rheumatology and the grant got out of it has enabled the creation of new infrastructure, a press release said after inauguration of the facility by Adviser to AYUSH S.K. Sharma.

He also released a specialised research journal in Ayurveda, titled ‘Journal of Clinical Rheumatology in Ayurveda'. The journal would be available for free access online at http://www.ayurveda rheumatology.org

Mr. Sharma also inaugurated the online database and indexing system on Ayurvedic research, the Digital Helpline for Ayurveda Research Articles/ Abstracts (DHARA).

The hospital claimed that DHARA was the first indexing system in the world, exclusively for Ayurveda Research.

Ayurveda practitioners would benefit from a new free physicians software which served as support instrument to document and access patient information in real time and also retrospectively.

Listing the initiatives taken to promote Ayurveda, Mr. Sharma said a new seven-and-a-half year curriculum was one of them.
