Coimbatore, Aug 5 (PTI) A full-fledged Textile Research Centre, sponsored by the Union Department of Science and Technology (DST), would become functional soon at Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) here. DST had sanctioned a grant of Rs.3.76 crore to KCT six years ago and the college had established the Advanced Manufacturing and Testing Laboratories, with the grants so far sanctioned by the department, KCT sources said. Recently, the DST has released the grant of Rs.46 lakh in the final phase, by which the centre would become full-fledged, they said. The research centre will have equipment like Lab Knitter with Electronic Tensioner, Air�Tronic Permeability, Lab Model Rotor Spinning Machine, Plasma Treatment Machine, Electro Spinning Unit, Sewability Tester, Permi Tester, Pneumatic clamp for Instron with additional jaw faces. It would be of immense use to the academicians, researchers and industries in and around Coimbatore and Tirupur, the hub of textile activities, the sources added.
