Bangalore growth the slowest according to Monster index - ET

A slow demand in the IT and ITes sector has pushed down the growth of Bangalore according to a survey by Monster Employment Index. The city grew by only 4% in May compared to Coimbatore's which shot up by 31%.
Baroda grew by 25% and Mumbai by 22% according to the index while Chandigarh and Ahmedabad were slow at 11%.
Amongst industries, oil and gas generated maximum amount of interest and grew at 30% in May compared to same period last year. While the IT industry showed a 21% growth, the lowest was recorded by telecom sector at -10%.
"The Index continues to record a positive year-over-year trend, with strong pockets of demand for professionals within the IT, oil/ gas and automotive sectors," said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director (India/Middle East/ South East Asia), Monster.com. "All cities monitored by the Index have registered positive annual growth indicating substantial opportunities for workers in these key markets."
Occupations like marketing and communication showed a decline of 23% whereas purchase and logistics grew by 34%.
Sunil Goel, executive director of recruitment firm Global Hunt said places like Coimbatore and Baroda are preferred because of cost-effectiveness, lower real estate prices. " The scams have had a negative impact on the image of the telecom sector where as government's support towards energy industries be it oil and gas, power are a boost," Goel said.

IBM in expansion mode, eyes 25 Indian cities by 2013 - NDTV profit

As part of its expansion plan, particularly in smaller cities in India, software major IBM aims to increase its presence in 25 more cities, besides the existing 22, by 2013, a senior company official said today.
The expansion is part of the company's strategy to establish its presence in growth markets, which are at present spreading to smaller cities, Nipun Mehrotra, Vice-President, General Business, Routes and Geographic Expansion, IBM India, South Asia said.
Mehrotra, who was here to inaugurate a new office, claimed that the growth rate in smaller cities was higher than big ones and the company wanted to tap the potential existing in such cities.
By adding 25 more offices in two years, the company is expecting to earn 'significant' revenue, he said, without elaborating the quantum in value or percentage.
Stating that the company is now focusing on smarter solutions, particularly in security and traffic management, Mehrotra said it is also working with different state governments and the Centre, on various projects, which includes airports.
As far as Coimbatore was concerned, it has experienced rapid economic growth in recent years due to development of the local textile, manufacturing and IT services industries and IBM was able to offer the entrepreneurs advanced technology solutions to help them increase productivity, customer service and track business performance, he said.

Narayanan Menon Receiving Appreciation for His World Record



Narayanan Menon, the proud owner of well known Tata Manza, had qualified to secure a place in the Limca Book of World Records for his stunning drive on the Coimbatore-Avinashi bypass on 25th of May, 2011. Mr. Menon had covered a long distance of 72.3 kilometers with consumption of just 1.58 liters of diesel; huge credit goes to the company product Quadrajet Aura ABS that has ascribed to offer an unbelievable mileage of 46.33 km per liter. Narayanan Menon is a resident of Coimbatore.

It was the highest ever mileage for any 1.3 Liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine across the world where the record was certified on May 25, 2011, said the record book. However, Mr. Menon had attributed his record to disciplined driving along with regular car maintenance.While commenting on achievement, he had emphasized to practice regular vehicle servicing and maintenance in order to avail good mileage. On the other hand, a release from the Tata Press had applauded Mr. Narayanan R Menon, Managing Director of Aromen Engineering Company, and a mechanical engineer, and said that he also deserves appreciation for his good driving skills and car maintenance.
