Aerial surveillance systems inducted for Tamil meet

Aerial surveillance systems in the form of a camera fitted in a balloon and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with camera were inducted, and a trial was held, near the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, venue of the World Classical Tamil Conference from June 23 to 27, on Saturday.
The balloon, which can go up to 1,000 ft, is fitted with a day and night surveillance camera and can capture images even at a 360 degree angle and maintain surveillance of three to four km.

Similarly, the UAV weighing 2.5 kg operated using battery and remote, which can maintain surveillance up to a radius of 15 km, will form part of the aerial surveillance systems.

These gadgets have been sourced from Arora, a Bangalore-based firm. This is the first time that such sophisticated surveillance systems are being adopted in Tamil Nadu, police officers said.
