Botanical garden works have begun: Kanimozhi

Rajya Sabha MP and Secretary of the academic sessions for the World Classical Tamil Conference, Kanimozhi on Saturday said that designing and execution of works in respect of the first phase of the Botanical Garden at Jail grounds have begun.

Ms. Kanimozhi along with Floats Procession Committee Chairman and Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, Accommodations Committee Chairman and Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy visited the VOC Park Grounds and inspected the ongoing works.

Ms. Kanimozhi told reporters that the Chief Minister has carefully scrutinised the proposals and had chosen the themes for the floats to represent the Tamil culture, literature and rich legacy.

The float procession has been named as “Iniyavai Narpathu”.

The floats would represent the historical signs such as Kurinji, Mullai, Marudham, Palai, Mangala Isai, Manu Needhi Chozhan, Began gifting a shawl to a peacock, Pari offering his chariot to the Mullai and Adhiyaman offering a ‘nellikani' to Avvaiyar.

Prior to the commencement of the conference and float procession, folk artistes would perform at various places such parks and grounds across the city and its peripheral areas.

Transport Minister, Mr. Nehru said that to facilitate easy movement of passengers, 1,000 special buses would be operated to Coimbatore from various districts.

To enable the visitors to commute across the city easily, special shuttle services would be operated in large numbers from various parts of the city to the mofussil bus stands.

To cater to the needs, buses would be introduced on new routes besides extending the route kilo meters for buses on the existing routes.
