The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, has appealed to the Union and the State Governments to upgrade the Coimbatore airport as an international one and name it as “Thiruvalluvar International Airport.”
The Chamber president Mahendra Ramdas has said in a release that Coimbatore was an industrial hub and was a growing, vibrant city. The airport here was equipped with adequate infrastructure, including facilities for night landing. On a daily basis, 23 domestic flights were operated in and out of the airport and three international flights on weekly basis. The flights also handled cargo movement from and to the region. Several additional facilities had been created for the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held here later this month.
